Plant-based dissolvable microcarriers with Animal or Xeno-Free Coating, dissolving in about 10 minutes for clean, filtration-free harvest.
P2 dissolvable microcarriers are made from a plant-based biopolymer core, coated with either a bovine gelatin/collagen (Animal Coating) or a Xeno-Free Coating. Smart MCs is also developing a novel peptide-based coating for P2.
The microcarriers dissolve through a controlled step using TrypLE and Smart MCs’ proprietary P2 Dissolving Buffer, typically about 10 minutes, removing the need to filter cells out after expansion.
In evaluations using C2C12 myoblasts, P2 showed greater than 90% cell attachment within 24 hours, expansion of up to 30-fold over 7 days depending on seeding density, cell densities reaching approximately 1 × 10⁶ cells/mL, recovery approaching 100% following dissolution, and post-harvest viability exceeding 90%, with differentiation capacity maintained.
