SmartMCs PLMA (poly-L-lysine methacrylate) Hydrogel

Poly-lysine is a naturally occurring antimicrobial polypeptide. PLMA locks that property into a photo-crosslinkable hydrogel, useful anywhere contamination risk is part of the workflow.

Photo-crosslinkable poly-L-lysine methacrylate hydrogel with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, from one of the few suppliers offering it.

Product Details

PLMA is a photocrosslinkable hydrogel derived from poly-L-lysine, a naturally occurring antimicrobial polypeptide, modified to enable light-based crosslinking. Smart MCs supplies PLMA with a compatible LAP photoinitiator for rapid, consistent gel formation under UV or visible light. Smart MCs is one of very few suppliers of PLMA in the industry.

PLMA is effective against a broad range of microorganisms, making it useful for applications where contamination or bacterial growth is a concern, without relying on metal-ion additives like silver. It can be used on its own or blended into other hydrogel systems such as GelMA, HAMA, and AlgMA to add antimicrobial function.

KEY FEATURES

  • Broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity from the poly-lysine backbone itself.
  • Rapid gelation under light, typically within seconds.
  • Low viscosity, enabling smooth extrusion and mixing.
  • Compatible with other hydrogels such as GelMA, HAMA, and AlgMA.
  • Enzymatically degradable.

APPLICATIONS

  • Antimicrobial hydrogels and coatings.
  • Wound dressing research.
  • Tissue engineering.
  • 3D bioprinting and bio-inks.
  • Functionalizing other hydrogel systems.
